  • 6th Circuit Court of Appeals Sets up Potential Supreme Court Decision on Gay Marriage

    Yesterday, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the 6th Circuit upheld same-sex marriage bans in Michigan, Ohio, Tennessee, and Kentucky.  The court’s 2-1 decision creates a split among the nation’s federal courts of appeals on the same-sex marriage issue.  Although the U.S. Supreme Court recently declined to hear appeals of decisions striking down same-sex marriage bans, critics believe the 6th Circuit’s decision will force the Supreme Court to address the issue.

  • Amputation Hazards and Injuries Can Be Expensive

    Many manufacturers and retail businesses remain at risk are at risk for amputation injuries.  Under the workers’ compensation law, compensation for amputations consists of scheduled loss awards, partial disability awards, temporary total disability awards, and permanent total disability awards, as well as significant medical costs.  In addition, the nature of the amputation may lead to additional medical conditions, which could increase the costs of a claim dramatically.
