Bittersweet and Great Lakes Collaborative For Autism Form Program To Assist Students with Disabilities in Developing Employment Skills

Bittersweet, Inc. and the Great Lakes Collaborative for Autism (GLCA) have partnered together to create Venture Bound, a new program to help students with cognitive challenges prepare for successful and sustainable employment.  Venture Bound will initially begin with Perrysburg Schools and local employers to identify career potential in each student.  Together they will work through a three-tiered training program, building on each student’s interests and strengths to create individualized life-skills training, curriculum, volunteer experiences, and employment opportunities.  The program will offer exploration and classroom assessment, volunteer opportunities in the community, participation in various job trainings, and employment for students in the community.  This program is aimed at providing young people with the necessary skills, confidence, and support to obtain meaningful and rewarding employment, and recognition as valuable contributors to the community.

Bittersweet, GLCA, and Perrysburg Schools will host a launch party for the new program on Tuesday, August 2nd at 6:00 p.m. at Perrysburg High School.  There are many ways for employers to get involved with this program.  For more details or contact information, see the Venture Bound Press Release or contact Meg Ressner (meg.ressner@gmail.com), President of the GLCA Board of Directors, for employer involvement questions.
