Firm History
Bugbee & Conkle, LLP, is very proud of its reputation for providing quality legal services for over 70 years. Our firm traces its beginning to 1922, when Harry S. Bugbee began his law practice with the firm of Tracy, Chapman and Wells. Mr. Bugbee’s practice prospered, and in 1937, he struck out on his own and established himself as one of the most respected labor lawyers in Northwest Ohio. During the 1940’s, employers faced unique labor and employment issues, engaging Mr. Bugbee’s expertise in union negotiations, fair labor standard issues, early union organization drives and numerous cases before the War Labor Board.
In 1948, while serving as president of the Toledo Bar Association, Mr. Bugbee joined his practice with Allan J. Conkle. In 1953, the two formed the present day firm of Bugbee & Conkle. While Mr. Bugbee continued representing employers in a myriad of labor issues throughout the 1950’s and 1960’s, Mr. Conkle began representing employers in the workers’ compensation area and began to expand the firm’s practice to other civil practice areas such as commercial law, corporate law, estate planning and probate law.
In the decades since then, Bugbee & Conkle, LLP, has grown to meet the ever increasing demands of its clients for more sophisticated legal services. Bugbee & Conkle, LLP, continues its long and rich tradition of representing employers throughout Ohio in all matters relating to workers’ compensation, and labor and employment law. The firm’s practice also encompasses a wide variety of practice areas including: safety law, civil litigation, personal injury, commercial and corporate law, wealth management, probate law and family law.
As Order of the Coif honors law graduates and past presidents of the Toledo Bar Association, Messrs. Bugbee and Conkle established the firm’s commitment to the highest standards of practice and service to the community. The current members of the firm continue to strengthen the commitment established by the firm’s founders.
