Ohio Industrial Commission Suspends Independent Medical Examinations

On March 18, 2020, the Ohio Industrial Commission announced on it Facebook page that it has cancelled all PTD independent medical examinations until Friday, May 1, 2020 in response to state recommendations to mitigate the risk of contracting and spreading COVID-19.  In addition, future examinations will not be scheduled at this time.  Because the Commission’s IME is an essential part of the PTD process under Ohio Admin. Code 4121-3-34, the cancellation of IMEs effectively stays PTD applications for which a Commission IME has not taken place.  We anticipate there will be further guidance from the Commission on this issue in the near future and we will provide an update accordingly.
